Having been heavy for over two decades, I have learned to LOVE retouching! The idea is “plausibility” – we want the finished image to still look like you, just to look like a really good shot of you
What I mean by that is, I’m a large woman, so if I make myself a size 2 in an image no one would believe that it’s a real picture of me. What I want is a more flattering version. So we shave a few pounds here and there and voila!
The same holds true for all aspects of retouching. I struggle with rosacea and so I have regular breakouts on my face. Most people may be mildly aware of it if they were talking to me, but hopefully it’s not the focus of what they see. So why should it be a focus in the images?
Everyone has their own little hang ups – things no one but them really notices: one tooth short than another, a mole or freckle, wrinkles, age spots, a darkened tooth, etc. See examples below of retouching – the first image is of me (Meghan) was shot by my dear friend Gina Houston.
